Qyniva keeps the dates your family and friends share, and the photos from them. Those photos are private to the people you share them with. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and how to remove it.
No ads, ever. We don't sell your information or share it with advertisers.
Your photos stay with your people. Only members of the group a photo was added to can see it.
No tracking. Qyniva has no analytics or advertising trackers and doesn't follow you across other apps or websites.
AI only if you say yes. Short notes are written from a date's title and description, never from photos, and only after you allow it.
Who we are
Qyniva ("we", "us") provides the Qyniva app and qyniva.com. For anything on this page, email support@qyniva.com.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Account details: your email address, your name, and a password (stored only as a secure hash) | To sign you in and show your name to the groups you join |
| What you add: groups, dates, titles, descriptions, and the photos and short clips you upload | That's the app. We store it so you and your group can see it every year |
| Group membership: which groups you belong to and your role in them | To decide who can see and add to what |
| Notification token: an identifier from Apple or Google for your device | To send the reminders and updates you've turned on |
| Purchase records: which plan or pass you bought, and the store's transaction ID | To unlock what you paid for. We never see your card or bank details — Apple and Google handle payment |
| Basic technical logs: such as IP address and error reports, kept by our hosting providers | To keep the service secure and working |
Guests who add photos through a link
People who open a guest link don't need an account. We store the photos and clips they send and the name they type, so the group knows who shared them. Guest links let people add photos, but they can't see anyone else's photos.
What we don't collect
We don't access your contacts, your location, or your photo library beyond the specific photos you choose to upload. We don't run face recognition on anything.
Who can see your photos
A photo or clip is visible only to the members of the group it was added to. If you keep a date just for yourself, only you can see it. Group owners and admins can remove any photo in their group. Links to photos are temporary and expire after an hour, so a copied link doesn't keep working.
Some photos in Qyniva will show children. They are treated exactly like every other photo: visible only to the group, and never used for anything else.
AI-written notes
Qyniva can write a short note for a date, such as a line about a birthday or about the year's photos. It only does this if you allow it. The app asks you once, and you can change your answer at any time in You › Account › AI notes.
If you allow it, we send the date's title, when it is, its description (if it has one) and how many photos it holds to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, which writes the note. We never send photos, videos, names of group members or your email. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this information is not used to train its models. If you don't allow it, nothing is sent and no notes are written for the dates you add.
Who helps us run Qyniva
We use a small number of trusted service providers, bound by contract to handle your information only to run Qyniva for us and to keep it secure:
- Cloud hosting — our database, photo storage and sign-in
- Website hosting — qyniva.com and the guest upload page
- Notification delivery — the services that carry reminders to your phone, including Apple's and Google's
- Purchases — the Apple App Store and Google Play take payment, and a purchase-verification service confirms what you bought
- AI notes — Anthropic, only if you allow it, as described above
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising. If you'd like the name of any provider, email support@qyniva.com and we'll tell you.
These providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep things
- Your account and what you add are kept until you delete them or your account.
- When you remove a photo, it disappears from the app straight away and is deleted from our storage within 30 days.
- When you delete your account, it is removed immediately. Leftover copies in backups are cleared within 30 days.
- We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Deleting your account
In the app: You › Account › Delete my account. You choose whether photos you added to shared groups stay with those groups or are deleted with you. Groups you own pass to their longest-standing member. Other ways to delete, including without the app.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, give you a copy of it, or delete it. You can also object to how we use it. Email support@qyniva.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK, EU or Nigeria, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (the ICO in the UK, your national authority in the EU, or the NDPC in Nigeria).
We use your information because you asked us to provide Qyniva (to perform our agreement with you), and to keep the service secure (our legitimate interest). You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or your phone's settings.
Children
You must be at least 13 to create a Qyniva account, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, tell us and we'll delete it. Parents can ask us to remove a photo of their child from any group. Email us with the group and date, and we'll act on it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Photos are stored in a private bucket that can only be read through short-lived, signed links. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
